New benchmarking audit report for community children ’ s occupational therapy services in Wales published
At a meeting between RCOT and Eluned Morgan , Minister for Health and Social Services , in January 2022 , members from Swansea Bay University Health Board described innovations and improvements they have made to the delivery of occupational therapy services for children , young people and families .
RCOT has subsequently published Wales community children ’ s occupational therapy services , which builds on that conversation to describe ‘ what good looks like ’ for children ’ s occupational therapy in Wales .
The paper also presents findings from an RCOT survey in which occupational therapists benchmarked their service against a set of national best practice standards .
While the initial brief was to benchmark against the excellent service delivered in Swansea Bay , RCOT recognises that children ’ s occupational therapists in other parts of Wales also deliver high quality care .
It therefore undertook a project to identify the highest quality service delivered by children ’ s occupational therapy services across Wales , before asking children ’ s community occupational therapy service leaders to benchmark their service against these nationally agreed quality statements .
The report , which was prepared by Dr Sally Payne , RCOT Professional Adviser , with a group of occupational therapy clinical experts , presents each quality statement , with principles illustrating how the quality can be demonstrated in practice and suggested actions for quality improvement .
