Families should look at your therapy sessions and think you ’ re just playing
To support the release of RCOT ’ s play guidelines for occupational therapists , Dr Naomi Graham , a children ’ s occupational therapist and member of RCOT ’ s play guideline development group , has volunteered a guest blog about the importance of play .
Dr Graham is a children ’ s occupational therapist and the founder and CEO of Growing Hope , a charity providing free therapy for children and young people with additional needs and their families – in partnership with local churches across the UK .
She loved being a part of the play guideline development group in order to help champion play in occupational therapy and says : ‘ Play is an essential part of my role as a children ’ s occupational therapist . The play guideline backs this up , providing a summary of research around the importance of play for children and ways in which we can champion play in our practice .’
She adds : ‘ I often say to people I love my job , I get to spend lots of my day playing !’

In partnership with the Carbon Literacy Project and E-learning for Healthcare , Greener NHS has developed an exciting new training programme . It is suitable for anyone working in the NHS , but particularly suits aspiring or new green champions or sustainability staff .
The Carbon Literacy Accredited programme has two steps .
Step one : E-Learning , which is comprised of five eLearning modules that cover climate science , impacts and policy , before focusing on climate change and health and effective climate communication .
Each module concludes with an assessment to test your knowledge . This step is done remotely and can be completed in stages as your progress will automatically be saved on your account .
Step two : in-person or online half-day workshop , with a few short home-based tasks . The workshop will focus on practical emissionsaving actions in your workplace setting and will be personalised to your organisation and / or workforce group .
The eLearning component is always free to NHS staff , however Greener NHS has also funded 120 workshop places , which will be delivered by training provider WRM . This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals in the NHS to become carbon literate for free .
Anyone who wants to sign up for the workshops must complete the eLearning first . All NHS staff can do so by signing up at bit . ly / 3XzH2CL .
