‘ You never realise the range of activities and tasks involved in running a professional body and to be able to contribute to these and make a difference for members is a privilege , as well as being a fantastic CPD opportunity .’
What will I do ?
Council members are expected to think strategically . You ’ ll actively contribute to discussions and decisions extending beyond your own area of practice and experience to safeguard the organisation and its members .
You ’ ll need to attend four one-day meetings a year , held in London or virtually . You ’ ll also attend the annual general meeting and Annual Conference .
There ’ s a large number of documents you ’ ll have to read and consider before each Council meeting . You ’ ll also receive emails which may ask you to supply specific information by a deadline .
We recommend you get the support of your manager , as holding these posts requires time away from work which they need to be aware of .
Odeth Richardson , Chair of Council , said : ‘ As a new Chair of Council , I ’ ve found it very valuable to learn about how RCOT works and be involved in decision making at the top level of my professional body .
‘ The CPD value in terms of leadership is a real benefit for my development , covering topics I haven ’ t tackled before . It ’ s great to give members a voice particularly when RCOT is at such an exciting phase of its transformation .’
