D espite the recent growth in the occupational therapy apprenticeship , the pedagogical nuances of the design and delivery remain somewhat understudied ( QAA 2022 ).

The BSc ( Hons ) Occupational Therapy ( Degree Apprenticeship ) full-time programmes at the University of East Anglia , University of Northampton and University of Huddersfield are designed to meet the needs of those apprentices who wish to become occupational therapists , to work with people to improve their quality of life and health using meaningful occupation .
It provides learners with a combined package of workbased and university study . In line with the apprenticeship model , the programmes are designed to support a ‘ training in practice ’ approach , therefore during the programme apprentices remain employed by their current organisation . The learners achieve the ‘ off the job hours ’ required for the apprenticeship by attending university and undertaking practice placements .
During the development of all programmes , an in-depth stakeholder analysis was undertaken , to determine which delivery model would meet the needs of local employing organisations and potential learners .
