Transforming our approach to CPD
Although there is a requirement for us to keep an accurate and up-to-date record of our own CPD activities , this doesn ’ t mean that CPD needs to be carried out on an individual basis . As Emma explains , there are many benefits to exploring your CPD needs with colleagues and engaging in CPD activities together .
‘ Often , we ’ ll find common learning and development needs within our team , or perhaps with colleagues working at a similar career level to ourselves ,’ Emma says . ‘ Working together to identify these and then engaging together in activities to meet those needs can help to motivate us and get into good habits .
‘ And ultimately , if you are working together within the same service , this collective learning can help you to benefit your service users and / or improve the quality of your service , as the HCPC CPD standards require us to do .’
The South West Cluster Therapy Team ( Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership ) who took part in the pilot testing of the CPDme platform , share the benefits of addressing their CPD needs as a team and how the portfolio was a really useful tool to help them to do this effectively , commenting :
‘ We have a more unified approach to CPD and now make time to complete CPD entries at the end of every event . We use it to reflect on our practice . It has refocused the team in relation to CPD , where we work together to encourage CPD throughout the year , not just for HCPC audit . It has been an absolute success in our team ; it has brought us closer together .’
