message from the

CHIEF EXECUTIVE

This has undoubtedly been another challenging year for everyone working within health and social care , and I want to thank you all for your brilliant work , for continuing to shine a light on the value of occupational therapy , and for the ever-changing and innovative ways in which you carry out your responsibilities as occupational therapists .
While the impact of COVID-19 continues to affect us all and our work , we are delighted to report that we have nonetheless achieved a huge amount on your behalf , and this annual review brings you just some of the successes of 2021 .
One thing has become clearer this year ; the pandemic has reinforced the necessity and importance of digital technology in both our professional and everyday lives . Over the year , here at RCOT we have risen to this challenge to successfully host several key virtual events , including our Annual Conference and two Elizabeth Casson Memorial Lectures .
Occupational Therapy Week 2021 was a huge success , with the launch of our health equity campaign , # OTsForEquity . Our social media reach for our campaigns is ever increasing , with just over eight million people engaging in # OTWeek2021 and nine million with # OTsForEquity . An incredible achievement .
But the work doesn ’ t stop there . Health equity is ‘ everyone ’ s business and this work will now become a priority for the coming year .
And we are continually making ongoing adjustments for the digital needs of our members , culminating in the launch this month of our new data and innovation strategy .
At the start of 2022 we will launch a new strategy and rebrand that will resonate with members . And through continuing to talk to members we will build on the ideas that we have for RCOT : to build a social movement of proud and confident occupational therapists that show the world the power of what we do ; to give a real , practical offer to support every occupational therapist to be the best they can be ; to grasp the biggest opportunities for occupational therapy to evolve and maximise our impact in a changing world ; and to become a modern , high-performing , insight-informed , and values-led organisation .
The occupational therapy profession has skills and experience that are needed now more than ever before . Our sense of community stands us in very good stead . I have seen the dynamism , passion , professionalism , and willingness to engage in difficult conversations , that will help RCOT and its members to thrive going forward .
I am incredibly proud of how you have continued to adapt to professional and personal challenges , while ensuring that you deliver a service to the people who need it . Thank you for being part of our professional community .
Steve Ford , Chief Executive
