FEATURE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY WEEK
Celebrating the profession
A look at two examples of creativity and innovation to mark this year ’ s Occupational Therapy Week
For this years Occupational Therapy
Week we asked occupational therapists to do three things : tell your story ; reach out to schools ; and share
# ChooseOT .
The social media statistics speak for themselves : over 10,000 uses of # ChooseOT over the week ; 5.4 million social media reach for # ChooseOT over the week ; 3.5 million social media reach for # OTWeek2020 over the week ; over 2,300 stories shared about why our members love being occupational therapists ; and nearly 6,000 views on our new ChooseOT . co . uk careers website in the first two weeks .
Of course , being the innovative and creative professionals that occupational therapists are , members celebrated in many ways . Some of you wrote poems , some of you recorded videos , many of you told why you love being an occupational therapist . Here we share some of your stories about the week ’ s celebrations .
‘ We are , we are , OTs !’ The East London NHS Foundation Trust occupational therapists in Luton and Bedfordshire took part in Occupational Therapy Week with a pledge ‘ to promote diversity and equality within the profession ’.
Relating to the topic , we thought outside of the box to create a video song to promote and share on social media with different communication aids and styles utilised .
Our third year occupational therapy student Kuda Limted , who has a passion for music , created the lyrics that gave a brief detail on the role of an occupational therapist . Each service area made a video recording that was edited together inspired by Queen ’ s ‘’ We Will Rock You ’, with the occupational therapists in the mental health and wellbeing services singing along to the song created .
