Winner of the 2021 Pearson Award – Sandie Woods
I applied for the Pearson Award to enable me to attend the two-day Dementias National Conference in London , which incorporated face-to-face and online delivery . Experts in the field presented their latest research in the diagnosis and management of dementia in a post-COVID-19 world . Networking with attendees enabled the sharing of information , ideas , resources , and good practice .
Conferences keep us up to date to deliver evidence-based health and social care . They also provide opportunities to meet people who feel equally passionate about improving the lives of people living with dementia and their carers .
Winner of the 2021 Innovation Award – Vicky Shaw
The award enabled me to free up dedicated time to undertake joint visits with the dementia specialist occupational therapist and complete multifactorial falls assessments with people with a dementia diagnosis . This was to see how Lewisham Community Falls Service ’ s approach to falls management could be adapted and improved to support people with dementia and their carers .

Getting the award has validated our belief that this is key area for occupational therapists and highlights the importance of maintaining skills in both mental and physical health when working with this population .
