Royal message pays tribute to RCOT
members’ work
HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of the Royal College of
Occupational Therapists, has sent a message to its members, paying tribute
to their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a video message posted on RCOT’s YouTube channel, she said: ‘As
the Patron of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, I’m impressed by
the way its members have risen to the many challenges that COVID-19 has
created. Adapting your work, your assessments and interventions, as well as
your own lifestyles to this situation, you have found new and innovative ways
to continue your vital work, particularly through the use of technology. This,
while also often balancing the needs of your own family and other demands.
‘I also recognise that although the current constraints might be easing,
the challenges and demand for occupational therapists will not decrease.
Your unique training and skills will come to the fore in coming months and
years, as we face what must be the next priority: providing rehabilitation.
The provision of personalised and occupationally-focused rehabilitation has
probably never been so important, or more urgently needed, across the UK.
As well as taking care of those who need your services, do not lose sight of
your own wellbeing.’
She concluded that she had ‘no doubt that occupational therapy will
emerge from these unprecedented times with its reputation enhanced and
also as a more united and stronger profession’.
