Kristelle Craven receives this year ’ s Joanne Pratt Memorial Award
Kristelle Craven , a member of RCOT Specialist Section – Work , received its Joanne Pratt Memorial Award , to enable her to attend the European Life After Stroke Forum in Barcelona last month , to present her highly-commended poster presentation on her research .
Kristelle is a PhD student at the University of Nottingham , currently working with stakeholders to co-design a toolkit to guide employers and stroke survivors in planning and managing a sustainable return-to-work post stroke .
The European Life After Stoke Forum was an opportunity for anyone interested in life after stroke to come together to learn from one another , network and debate how life after stroke can be improved .
During discussions at the conference , Kristelle was able to share her research on employers ’ perspectives during the return-to-work process and beyond and the beneficial impact of employers having support from health professionals , including occupational therapists working in vocational rehabilitation .
Kristelle attended a number of talks , including on the future implementation of the Stroke Action Plan for Europe
and on the unmet needs of stroke survivors and carers in Europe . This included raising awareness that stroke survivors often feel abandoned once they have left stroke services , and reaffirmed the importance of Kristelle ’ s PhD work .
Kristelle ’ s award gave her the opportunity to network and build her Kristelle Craven reputation and contacts for her research , improve her knowledge and understanding of life after stroke , and promote the role of occupational therapists in vocational rehabilitation .
All RCOT Specialist Section – Work members are eligible to apply for a Joanne Pratt Memorial Award , which aims to support members to learn and grow in their role as an occupational therapist .
