It is SPRING BREAK!! Hope the weather is good
and everyone enjoys a week of family and
friends.
Maybe reading and practicing
classroom skills are on the “to do” list. Here are
a couple of suggestions for daily down time or if
your child needs a rainy day activity…
IXL Math: IXL offers complete coverage of
math skills from pre-K through Algebra, is
aligned to the Common Core State Standards,
and is presented on a web-based format for use
at school, dorm, and home. All OSD students
have a user name and password, and the
program tracks and reports progress. Check it
out… www.ixl.com
We have ADDED…
IXL Language Arts: Now students can also
practice their language skills. Unlock the world
of words with fun, interactive practice
problems. This is a great way for your child to
improve their reading and writing skills. Same
website… www.ixl.com
If you need assistance or a user name and
password…email me!
Have a great Break!

PBIS
stands
for
Positive
Behavioral
Interventions and Supports. It’s a school-wide
program which provides staff, students, and
families with ideas on how guide our youth to
be safe, respectful, and responsible.
At OSD, we utilize many of the ideas provided
by PBIS: ‘PAH’ recognition program, weekly
Student Reviews, mini-lessons on expectations
for various areas of campus, posting visual
reminders of expectations around campus,
keeping our campus clean and safe, etc. These
are geared towards helping staff and students.
Families play an important part in their child's
education and social development. The
presence of parents in schools not only provides
additional academic supports but also creates
community and cultural connections. OSD is
unique in terms of the fact that many of our
students live outside of Salem. This poses some
challenges for the school community to connect
with families.
One way PBIS recommends in terms of helping
families for OSD to keep open lines of
communication (report cards, IEP updates,
school website, school facebook page, Parent
VUE, etc.). This helps everyone be on the same
page, as much as possible, regarding
expectations for youth in being safe, respectful,
and responsible.
Another way is to ensure families feel welcome
and are invited to attend OSD activities – such
as sports, Prom, school dances, drama
