Sports and Shoulder Research
Launched in 2012 , the Sports and Shoulder Research Fellowship accepts one research fellow per year to engage in several sections across the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery . The program prides itself on its academic productivity , engaging in projects that range from isolated case reports to prospective randomized multicenter studies . Any sports and shoulder topics are potential study domains . The team routinely publishes in lead journals including JBJS , AJSM , JSES , and Arthroscopy .
The Sports and Shoulder Research Fellowship is led by Eugene Brabston , MD , assistant professor , and Amit Momaya , MD , Sports Medicine Section chief .

Orthopaedic Oncology Research
The Orthopaedic Oncology section , supported by Herrick Siegel , MD , and Lisa Kafchinski , MD , seeks to extend the boundaries of known cancer research for musculoskeletal oncology . It is one of the busiest centers in the southeast for the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors . It employs cutting-edge techniques and prosthetic devices to maximize functional outcomes and the patient ’ s quality of life . The center has performed hundreds of successful limb salvage surgeries , using the most advanced orthopaedic implants available . The center ’ s research aims to support these clinical endeavors , improving orthopaedic surgical oncology procedures for patients across the nation .
