Visit to Barrett Steam Models Ltd

Students from the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) club visited Barrett Steam Models Ltd. They are a local company who design and construct model steam engines.

Mr Barrett, father of Johnathon, one of our Gifted and Talented students, was kind enough provide the group with a rare insight into a STEM career. He guided the group through the process of producing models to sell to the public, from drawing scale diagrams and engineering the model train, to testing a built engine. This allowed students to see where knowledge and skills learned in the classroom are used in a real workplace.

The STEM group really enjoyed the visit and would all like to thank Mr Barrett and Jonathan for such a valuable opportunity.
