Shelfield Celebrates Black History Month through dance.

The students performed intricate and vibrant body movements associated with African dancing which symbolised their beliefs, emotions and a sense of belonging. Students who participated said that they found the whole experience enjoyable and fun.

To celebrate Black History Month, October 1st – 31st, The Academy invited ‘KANESH’; the highly recommended and outstanding dance company to deliver African Dance workshops. The dance company delivered a number of exhilarating African and Caribbean dance workshops during selected P.E. dance lessons.

During the workshops the students gained an opportunity to understand the history of African communal life through learning the history of dance in its context. They also experienced the powerful aesthetic movements of African dances, accompanied

by percussive and drumming sound scores.
