Welcome! This new series will focus on understanding the geology and makeup of different planets in our solar system by understanding what a day on each of the 8 planets would look like. This month on the astronomy side of Orion, we’re going to look at a day on the dynamic surface of Mercury, so pack your bags and get ready to visit the planet named for the godly Roman messenger.
Well we’re probably going to want to set up camp near one of Mercury’s poles because of the availability of frozen solid water located at the caps and also because the poles stay at a relatively consistent temperature beneath -136 degrees F. This is relatively consistent if compared to temperature variations on other parts of the planet.
