Thanks to recent research, mankind may be much closer to preventing the further spread and death caused by HIV with the formation of an experimental vaccine that treats an infection very similar to HIV.
Funded by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), which is part of the National Institute of Health, several SIV prime-boost vaccine regimens have shown promise in partially protecting against infection by the virulent SIV strain. This situation parallels that which happens if an HIV vaccine was in existence.
