Introducing the new British High Commissioner to Singapore Kara Owen

Singaporean students in UK’s top universities and in the increasing – and I want this flow to get much bigger – flow of young British people who have studied and worked here; it’s in our tourist numbers, hugely significant in both directions as our two populations find difference and familiarity as they travel to the other. It’s in our research links where academics from UK and Singapore institutions work together on cutting edge issues such as quantum key, how to use data to build the greenest, most liveable cities, how to develop food that will meet the 21st century’s insatiable demand without trashing our climate goals.

Our two governments in January launched the Partnership for the Future. This draws on the deep reserves of admiration and goodwill we have towards each other and focuses our joint work on areas where we both have real strengths and that will define us in the future: the digital economy; sustainable business and innovation; defence and security (traditional and new issues); and education, culture and youth.

The British business community is relevant to all of these areas. I look forward to working with you as partners as we seek to bring as much mutual benefit from the partnership as we can.
