Message from the President
Bicky Bhangu
President,
British Chamber Of Commerce, Singapore
It was little more than a month ago when the world’s eyes fell on Singapore as it hosted the historic US- North Korea summit. Following a somewhat heated ending to the G7 Summit in the days before, the majority of world leaders expressed positive reactions to what appeared to be a successful meeting.

While it may be some time before the outcome of the summit is fully clear, there is no doubt we have witnessed a significant milestone in world history and hopefully a positive step towards the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.

As PM Lee highlighted ahead of the meeting, Singapore’s role in the summit certainly says something about the strong relations Singapore has been able to build and its standing in the international community.

Forging new relations certainly remains a priority for Britain as Brexit discussions continue. The next six months will see some critical decisions being made as the March 2019 exit deadline comes into view.

In Chamber news, I would like to thank those of you who have entered our 2018 Annual Business Awards. I encourage everyone to attend the Awards night on 27th September. It is always a lot of fun and a great opportunity to see some of the best examples of UK-Singapore collaboration, as well as the great work being done by our members.

As always, the BritCham calendar is full of events, including a number of other networking opportunities like our Summer Social event on 30th August and the F1 Networking Reception with Williams Martini Racing on 13th September.

One last event I would like to draw your attention to is a session being organised by our Diversity and Inclusion group on Mental Health later in the year. Employee wellbeing is a key responsibility of any employer and the more we do to raise the visibility of topics like mental health, the better equipped we can all be in terms of building better and more inclusive workplaces.
