Tanglin Trust School

Announcing the winners of the
Across Asia Youth Film Festival 2018

Tanglin Trust School and the Festival Director are delighted to announce the winners of the Across Asia Youth Film Festival 2018 (AAYFF). On Friday, 4th May 2018, Tanglin Trust School laid out the red carpet to welcome shortlisted filmmakers to an Oscar-style Gala Screening. Close to 400 guests dressed up Hollywood-style to view the 33 shortlisted films adjudicated by media professionals from Disney, HBO and Mediacorp.

Now in its second year, the AAYFF 2018 attracted 309 film submissions from 62 schools and 14 countries in Asia. Established in 2017 to help emerging filmmakers from schools and institutions across Asia reach the broadest possible audience and to generate international dialogue through their films, this year saw a heightened level of creativity and innovation from all entrants.

The AAYFF 2018 provided an inspiring opportunity for students aged 10 to 21 to not only showcase their visual story-telling, but to learn from industry experts. As an additional attraction this year, shortlisted filmmakers attended an exclusive ‘Industry Day’ on 3rd May 2018 , featuring workshops hosted by HBO Asia at Infinite Studios, a tour of the Tanglin set at Mediacorp, and presentations by Lucas Film and Disney at the Sandcrawler.

The AAYFF would not have been possible without the support of our Festival Partners and we would like to thank our panel of esteemed judges from Disney, HBO and Mediacorp:
• Tom Batchelor, General Manager, Disney Studios,
Southeast Asia
• Doreen Neo, Chief Content Officer, Mediacorp
• Garon De Silva, Vice President, Original Productions,
HBO Asia

The Gala Screening was enjoyed by a live audience and those watching from home:

“While I couldn’t attend the Gala Screening, being able to watch the glamorous event via the live streaming was brilliant. It was wonderful to watch the films, and to feel part of this exciting event at my child’s school. The AAYFF made me realise what amazing facilities and courses my child has to look forward to as she moves through the years at Tanglin.”

“For me, the event was fabulous. I watched part of last year's online once we found out we were coming. This year was, in my opinion, much more glamorous, so it can only get bigger and better. Tanglin's hospitality were second to none.”

The Chamber continues to engage with local businesses, business groups, and key players from the public sector to strengthen UK-Philippine trade relations.
