the oregon vortex
The Oregon Vortex, located halfway between
Grant’s Pass and Medford in the historic mining community of
Gold Hill, is a must-do for any visitor to the area. The Oregon
Vortex and House of Mystery offer a glimpse of a strange world
where the improbable is the commonplace and every day physical facts are reversed. It is a unique area of naturally occurring visual and perceptual phenomena, which can be captured on film.
No matter your education or profession you will find a challenge
to all your accepted theories.
The vortex is a spherical field of force, half above the ground
and half below the ground. Among the unique phenomena to
be observed here are such as another person, on a level platform,
recedes from you towards magnetic south, they appear taller.
When they approach you, coming towards magnetic south, they
become shorter.
You are invited to come take the educational tour of the Vortex
and the House of Mystery and experience the challenges to the
laws of perspective as we know them, that must be seen to be
believed. Come see the copper pipe and magnet demonstration,
(also know as the Eddy Current Tube) that demonstrates the
electromagnetic principle known as “Lenz’s Law”). Browse the

selection of educational, experimental toys in the gift shop and
see the popular Copper Pipe and Magnet educational device that
can be purchased as a gift or souvenir. Group and individual
tours are available. Large groups by reservation. Reservations can
be made by calling (541) 855-1543. Open 9 am to 4 pm March
through October and 9 am to 5 pm June, July and August.
