Session III: Sunday, January 19, 2014 Estimate Estimate 2989X 2990 2992 Session III: Sunday, January 19, 2014 Estimate Estimate – NICARAGUA – 2990 1896 DEMONETIZED CARD, BLUEFIELDS TO ENGLAND .................................................................. PH ZEPPELIN COVERS $100 Demonetized usage of 1890 2c locomotive domestic postal card (H&G #8). Postmarked Bluefields, addressed to England. Affixed with 1896 Maps issue 1c violet and 2c blue green making correct foreign rate. New Orleans transit mark. Rare usage of issue, showing Bluefields on the map; Nicaragua had recently re-established control of the Mosquito Coast. Insignificant crease at far left. Very fine. – CHAD – 2992 – PARAGUAY – 2991 1960s-80s AMERICAN TOPICAL ASSN CORRESPONDENCE .................................................. $150-250 An estimated 200 covers sent from the Philatelic Agency of Paraguay to the ATA. Nearly all with topicals for franking, vast majority contain MINT NH stamps or S/S, often overprinted ‘Muestra’ (Specimen). This is a great topical lot and the ‘specimen’ overprints do make the stamps a little more desirable. Many of these issues have low issue numbers (like 5,000) and are extremely scarce on cover. Great lot for any topical dealer. OrcoExpo 2014 • Anaheim, California Covers 02.pmd 179 1935 2nd SOUTH AMERICA FLIGHT, FORT-LAMY TO BAHIA, BRAZIL VIA PARIS ................................. PH $5000 A tremendously RARE 1935 Registered cover from Fort-Lamy (Chad) via Paris & with Stuttgart connector flight (which makes it even RARER). Colorfully franked with eight different 5c-5fr overprinted CHAD issues (by Scott): #22, 27, 29, 38, 42, 46, 49 & 50. All tied by eight strikes of ‘FORT-LAMY 25 MARS 35’ cds. Red Europa-SudAmerika flight confirmation handstamp, two line handstamp purple ‘PAR LE DIRIGEABLE “ZEPPELIN”/Via Paris-Freidrichshafen (Allemagne)’ & hand drawn French flag on front. PARIS & STUTTGART transit cds, BAHIA receiving cds and ‘CONDOR/ZEPPELIN/ LUFTHANSA’ confirmation stamp on back. Attractive cover, unusual route, very fine. A spectacular, exhibit piece! (Sieger #293 €€2100=US$2768). You can disregard the catalog value as Sieger does not account for the UNIQUENESS of this cover – only a handful exist, and this is by far the nicest with an incredible routing from Chad to Paris to Stuttgart to Friedrichschafen to South America! Makes for a tremendous showpiece. Stamps & Postal History Page 179 11/27/2013, 3:44 PM
