WHERE TO START ?

This booklet contains a large amount of information . It will help you to understand how the curriculum for Key Stage 4 is constructed and how to make your choice of subjects .

However , it is not your only source of information . Remember :

The more you know , the more informed your decisions will be and the more likely they are to be right for you .

We will advise you to make sure your curriculum is broad and balanced .

SO WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO ?

Find out as much information about each subject as you can . Find out how the course will be assessed .

� Ask questions . � Coursework – How much ? How long will it take ? How much is it worth ?

� Exams – How many ? How long ? When do they happen ? e . g . Are there controlled assessments throughout the course ?

Speak to current Year 9 , Year 10 and Year 11 students about the courses you are interested in .

� Think about how you learn best – do you prefer practical subjects ? Do you have a talent ? �

�

Check if there are specific qualifications that you might need for the career path you want to follow .

If you do not have any definite ideas in mind , make sure you keep as many options open as you can .
