The Health and Social Care professions have always been at the forefront of caring for and supporting individuals at different stages of their lives . The Cambridge National Certificate in Health and Social Care can provide the first stepping stone to progress into these careers , as it introduces students to specialist knowledge and skills needed to work in various settings including ; midwifery , physiotherapy , nursing , social care , prison and social work , child care and teaching .
Underpinning the qualification is a focus on core values and communicating with individuals so as to maintain their dignity and sense of being valued . The various units studied allows students to learn about real life work and jobs and to gain valuable experience in this area of study .
The Cambridge National Certificate is weighted the same as a GCSE and is assessed using internal and external assessment .
The Certificate covers 4 units of study each worth 25 % of the final grade . Students must complete 2 mandatory units and 2 optional units . The current units we study are :

R021 - Essential values of care for use with individuals in care settings ( external assessed examination ) R022 - Communicating and working with individuals in a health , social care and early years setting ( internally assessed , externally moderated )
2 Optional units :
� R031 - Understanding First Aid Procedures ( internally assessed , externally moderated )
� R023 - Understanding Body Systems and Disorders ( internally assessed , externally moderated )
