GCSE Statistics will be assessed entirely by an end of course examination . The study of Statistics will support students in their GCSE maths .
It is recommended that a specialist calculator is purchased for use in this examination . This course aims to :
� Help students acquire knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques and concepts . � Encourage statistical problem solving . � Develop students ’ understanding of the importance and limitations of statistics . � Support students in their progression through statistics and other related subjects ( such as psychology ). � Help students achieve the higher maths grades and also prepare for Maths at 6 th Form .
This course entails : �

Using statistical techniques in a variety of authentic investigations , using real world data ( both primary and secondary as appropriate ) in contexts such as , but not limited to , populations , climate , sales , etc . Identifying trends through carrying out appropriate calculations and data visualisation techniques . The application of statistical techniques across the curriculum , in subjects such as the sciences , social sciences , computing , geography , business and economics , and outside of the classroom in the world in general . Critically evaluating their own data , calculations and evaluations , and of a range of published data , calculations and evaluations that would be commonly encountered in their studies and in everyday life .
� Gaining direct experience of using some of the technologies that have enabled the collection , visualisation and analysis of large quantities of data to inform decision – making processes in public , commercial and academic sectors .
� Applying appropriate mathematical and statistical formulae .
Career Prospects
Statistics is a highly sought after GCSE as it underpins many other qualifications . Statistics forms a large part of life in general and is therefore an essential life skill .
