TOO MUCH TV CAN SLOW YOU DOWN
Walking to school, work or even the gym, how fast is your
typical pace? A study of adults in the United Kingdom between 48 and 92 years of age suggests the amount of time
you spend watching TV can have a significant impact on walking speed. Findings were published in the journal Medicine &
Science in Sports & Exercise.
Researchers analyzed responses from 8,623 subjects enrolled in the European Prospective Investigation of
Cancer between 1998 and 2000 then again from 2006 to
2007. They found a strong correlation between time spent
watching television and typical walking speed. Those who
watched less than 2 hours a day walked significantly
faster than those averaging more than 4 hours a day
parked in front of the TV.
True Strength Moment: If you aren't sprawled on the couch
watching TV, chances are you're on your feet engaged in
some form of activity. Whatever that activity is, if it's helping to put a spring in your step it's likely to be more rewarding than anything you could be watching on the tube.
