OPTICAL PRISM | FROM THE EDITOR
In addition to articles relating to vision health , this issue of Optical Prism also includes a pictorial dedicated to the rising popularity of pink , a story on the new collaboration between Versace and actor Cole Sprouse and articles on new products by companies like I-MED and Avulux that are aimed at improving a person ’ s health and quality of life .
SAYING GOODBYE : As some of you may know , this will be my final issue as editor of Optical Prism magazine .
I joined Optical Prism as assistant editor in June 2016 and have served as editor for the past six years .

May is Vision Health Month in Canada , an opportunity for eye care professionals to remind their patients and the public to make vision and eye health a priority .

Canadian ECPs have long been driving home the message that 75 per cent of vision loss can be prevented with proper care and the best way for people to take care of their vision is to visit their eye care professional regularly .
But there are other tips for protecting vision , including encouraging patients to take a risk assessment , such as the one available at www . seethepossibilities . ca , wear the right sunglasses , maintain a healthy lifestyle and wear proper safety equipment .
This issue of Optical Prism is a nod to Vision Health Month .
Assistant editor David Goldberg speaks with various companies about some of the newest lens technologies aimed at helping to curve the onset of myopia and other common causes of vision loss .
These innovations come at a critical time as experts forecast that half of the world ’ s population will be myopic or have myopia by 2050 .
This month ’ s column by the Canadian Association of Optometrists , written by president Dr . Harry Bohnsack , speaks to the importance of visual health and the CAO ’ s advocacy work to urge the federal government to create a comprehensive eye health and vision care strategy for Canada that strives to maximize the health , independence and economic participation of its citizens .
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the magazine and bringing you the news and feature stories that are important to those in the eyewear and eyecare industries . I ’ ve also enjoyed meeting and working with so many of you within the industry .
I want to thank each and every one of you for your support over my past 7.5 years at OP .
I believe we have transformed this magazine in the past few years from a somewhat sleepy publication with limited online presence to a more edgy , fashionforward magazine with highly relevant articles and a significant online presence .
I want to thank Publisher Suzanne Lacorte for always supporting and being a champion of the editorial side of Optical Prism . She ’ s a shining light in optical .
I leave the editor ’ s chair in good hands , with Janet Lees taking over for the June issue .
I know you ’ ll show her the same support and kindness you ’ ve showed me .
Thanks so much for this experience .
