OPTICAL PRISM | FROM THE EDITOR
While No Doubt was a great band , I went from being a fan of Stefani to an uber fan after the launch of her solo career in 2004 .
Her first solo album Love . Angel . Music . Baby . contained several hits , including What You Waiting For ?, Hollaback Girl and Rich Girl , which featured rapper Eve . The EP ’ s track Cool is still one of my favourite songs of all time - a beautifully written tune about rekindling a friendship with a former lover following a breakup .
I share all of this , of course , to put into perspective how thrilled I am to see Gwen Stefani grace this month ’ s cover of Optical Prism magazine .
I ’ m even happier that we got a chance to chat with the award-winning singer and style icon about her career and her new eyewear collections with Tura Inc . - L . A . M . B ., gx by Gwen Stefani and Zuma Rock .
We hope you get a chance to kick back , relax and experience The Sweet Escape by reading our feature on Stefani as well as the other articles and previews in this month ’ s issue .
There ’ s No Doubt that I ’ ve been an ardent fan of Gwen Stefani for most of my life .
I first stumbled upon the stylish , redlipped singer in the mid-1990s while glued to MuchMusic .
It was No Doubt ’ s hit Spiderwebs that initially captured me in the Stefani web and I ’ ve been gaga over Gwen ever since .
The rock / pop band from Anaheim , California , released what would be the top-charting single of their career , Don ’ t Speak , a year later , which secured No Doubt a whole new legion of fans .
That hit peaked at Number 1 in multiple countries , including Canada and the United Kingdom , in 1996 .
I can still recall ordering No Doubt ’ s breakthrough album Tragic Kingdom , which included those tracks , through Columbia House and waiting patiently for the CD to arrive in the mail .
I remember the disc was a delicious orange colour , with No Doubt spelled out in baby blue capital letters along the top . The CD booklet featured photos of the band , which I would stare at for hours as I played the album on my fancy CD-cassette player .
The theme for May is spring eyewear and , with this in mind , this issue includes a feature on the latest trends for frames as well as an article on the newest innovations in lenses .
You ' ll also find articles on titanium frames , a new UVClean system invented by Zeiss and columns by the Canadian Association of Optometrists and Marketing4ECPs .
Happy spring !
