From the editor
It goes without saying that eyewear has come a long way from the days when glasses were only an essential - and clunky - medical device to correct poor vision .
Today , eyeglasses are also a must-have fashion accessory that not only correct vision but enhance a person ’ s appearance .
People can now choose eyewear to make a statement ; whether they wish to convey to others that they are sophisticated and professional , fun and energetic or stylish and trendy . There truly is a style for every personality , a frame colour for every mood and eyewear for every outfit .
It ’ s amazing how simply swapping out a pair of eyeglasses can transform a person ’ s entire look from boardroom professional to party glamour .
This issue of Optical Prism magazine celebrates eyewear ’ s place as a fashion accessory . Included in these pages is a piece on the latest in luxury eyewear .
The article , and our cover image , showcase the first eyewear collection by rag & bone , set to launch this spring / summer with eyewear partner Safilo . The collection , designed in Safilo ’ s New York Design Studio , combines British heritage with a modern and edgy New York attitude . This truly is a high-fashion collection to watch .
The luxury eyewear article also discusses some of the must-have frames from WestGroupe , Etnia Barcelona and others .
Speaking of Safilo , we are excited to share with you an article on the new eyewear collection by popular fashion house Moschino . This collection is the very definition of luxury . This issue of Optical Prism also includes a piece on celebrity-inspired eyewear , including the latest frames from Zyloware and Tura Inc .
Our pictorial features frames from companies like WestGroupe , Alternative / Plan ‘ B ’ Eyewear , Etnia Barcelona and others that embrace primary colours , a trend that The Vision Council ’ s Eyecessorize campaign says will be hot this spring / summer . And , of course , there ’ s also plenty of news in this issue .
We speak with Plastic Plus President Paul Faibish about the Canadian company ’ s new state-ofthe-art Toronto facility and what the new space means for the family-owned lens manufacturer .
You will also find in this issue our coverage of Transitions Academy , which was held in February in Orlando , Florida .
We hope you enjoy this issue of Optical Prism ; our celebration of bold , beautiful and trendy eyewear .
