Operating Department Practitioner Medical Services
The specialisation of Operating Department Practitioner is part of the Medical Services Profession within the RAF , which also includes Registered Nurse ( Adult ) and ( Mental Health ), Medic , Environmental Health Practitioner , Dental Nurse , Radiographer , Pharmacy Technician and Biomedical Scientist .
Professions in the RAF are distinct areas of defence expertise where common skills and attributes are required to deliver on demand . Whilst Service Personnel can expect to spend the majority of their career in their chosen Specialisation they may be employed in any of the Specialisations within their Profession : this will depend upon aptitude , qualifications , career aspirations and the Service need .
Unified Career Management ( UCM )
Unified Career Management ( UCM ) is a new approach to managing cadres of people where the capabilities they deliver are very similar across two or more of the single Services ( sS ).
Personnel within UCM cohorts will benefit from new and bespoke career pathways which offer individuals the opportunity to progress a career within specialist cohorts .
Serving personnel will transfer to UCM Medical Terms and Conditions of Service ( TaCOS ) on 1 January 2024 under their current engagement / commission type and length of Service ( LoS ), those joining the sS on / after 1 January 2024 will automatically be aligned with UCM Terms of Service ( TOS ).
