WELCOME

Open Water/Autumn, 2016 5

Well, we've made it to our second issue. Thanks to everyone who has subscribed, thanks for all the feedback and thanks to everyone who has read the first issue. I do like to celebrate wins no matter how small they are and I am really grateful for all the positive energy that everyone's sent my way.

As this issue is being released, I am on my way to New Zealand’s North Island for a whirlwind trip to Lake Taupo. I am hoping to jump into the crystal waters of the lake before things are churned up as part of IRONMAN New Zealand.

The release of the latest issue of Open Water is usually a nervous period of time for me but this time round it's taken me away from the fact that I will be racing my first IRONMAN while in New Zealand. The large, unquantifiable fact of swimming, biking and running for that amount of time is playing on my head as it's difficult to fully grasp the concept until you actually cross the finish line. As with creating this magazine, it has been another amazing journey I am grateful to have taken on.

For this issue we seem to have the theme of "Going Long". It's not all about the distance you cover, but if you have a calling to get your feet wet in longer distances, this is a good place to start. We have a great interview with Grant Callaghan who recently crossed the English Channel and get an intimate insight into his experience. We are previewing some upcoming events in Australia and New Zealand to hopefully give you your first steps into marathon swimming, some interesting advice for dealing with swimming anxiety, plus heaps more.

I do like to celebrate wins no matter how small they are and I am really grateful for all the positive energy that everyone's sent my way.
