A Bloody Big

SWIM

There is a lot that motivate people to take on the Bloody Big Swim. It is one of Victoria's longest swims, with participants needing to take on 11.2km to complete the swim from Frankston to Mornington, with this years event being more difficult with swimmers needing to tackle a headwind as well as an incoming tide.

The Bloody Big Swim is an annual event conducted by the Mornington Life Saving Club with the aim to promote interest in open water swimming for fun and fitness.

Due to the length of the swim it's perfect preparation for swimmers wanting to take on the Rottnest Channel Challenge in late February, while a lot of entrants also use it as a warm up for a potential English Channel attempt later in the English Summer. Whatever your reasons, it's still Bloody Big.

I found myself at the 2016 event as a spectator as the distance would be a little further than what I'm used to or ready to tackle, with this being the first time that I have had the opportunity to see off swimmers from Frankston Life Saving Club. The race is high on the list of most open water swimmers around Melbourne as it seems to offer the next big challenge for local swimmers.
