Sarah Brown Senior Scientist, NATO NCI Agency CIICS: BRINGING NATIONS TOGETHER AGAINST CYBER-THREATS The Cyber Information and Incident Coordination System (CIICS), developed by the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency), is a multinational initiative to deliver a cyber information sharing and incident coordination platform. C IICS is currently integrated in Canada, the Netherlands, and Romania, with prospects for deployment in other NATO nations and partner nations this year. Sarah Brown is a senior scientist at NATO’s NCI Agency. As the technical lead for CIICS, she is responsible for coordinating with the nations that are sponsoring the project and driving the CIICS roadmap. Brown is overseeing the technical functionality, the governance, and the use of the system within NATO and nations. How is NATO responding to the evolution of cyber defense concepts? NATO is always refreshing and evolving its technologies, regularly reviewing what the requirements are, and seeking different technologies to meet those requirements. We are consistently working on different solutions to meet the needs of our static and deployed infrastructure. Why is international coordination on cyber incidents important? It is important. For example, if there is a joint mission between two or more nations, and one nation detects an incident that is relevant to the work of other partners, then it is very important to share that information. We observed the need for this type of cyber information exchange during our annual Cyber Coalition Exercise. Our efforts are on keeping our nations safe. We also
