On October 3–4, cyber defense experts and practitioners from NATO member
military agencies, industry leaders, and academic visionaries came together in Sofia,
Bulgaria, for the Symposium on Cyber Defense Situation Awareness, which was
organized by NATO.
The symposium presented the latest developments and future challenges in cyber
defense situational awareness, cybersecurity metrics, dynamic risk assessment, and
visualization in cyber defense.
Douglas Wiemer, RHEA Group’s Director of Cybersecurity, participated in the
conference as chairman. During the conference, Mr. Wiemer presented the outcomes
from the NATO IST-108 Cyber Defense Situation Awareness research task group,
including the development of an evaluation methodology to assess operator levels
of situation awareness for cyber defense. This methodology is currently undergoing
trials, including a trial run on April 18–22, 2016, at Locked Shields 2016.
