said I would eat a plant-based diet for the rest of the two months of filming . By the end of that time , I felt great and figured I would just keep going for the sake of it . I guess the real reason for doing it was actually just spite and hard-headedness ! I think that ’ s a main motivating factor for most of what I do in life . I just don ’ t like people telling me what I can or can ’ t do .
Besides filming and screenwriter , you ’ re also involved in the Vancouver food industry with popular restaurants like Do Chay and , previously , Uncle ’ s Snack Shop . How did that all happen ? When I first tried Do Chay , I could not stop going . I literally went every single day for two weeks straight . I wanted to try every single item on the menu several times over , and I scheduled every meeting that I had at Do Chay so I could accomplish that . By the end of those two weeks , they were creating new dishes just because they knew I would be coming in , and they wanted to keep things fresh . Of course , it doesn ’ t hurt to know the owner , Patrick Do . We went to high school together and hung out when he lived in LA for a few years . Even so , Do Chay would be my favourite restaurant in the world if I didn ’ t know him to begin with . It was through Do Chay that I got to know Patrick better , and we found that we just got along really well and saw eye-to-eye on most things . With a mutual respect , we began collaborating on a few things starting with Uncle ’ s Snack Shop with a few other partners . Now we ’ ve taken that experience and we ’ re deep in development on a show about a family running a restaurant . Patrick is now my best friend and a collaborator on pretty much everything I do .
Where would you say Vancouver stands globally when it comes to vegetarian and vegan cuisine ? I may be a little biased when it comes to this , but I seriously think that Do Chay changed the game for Vancouver and vegetarian /
vegan cuisine here . When Do Chay first opened , there was always a two-hour wait . I always timed my visits for 3:00 pm in an effort to avoid the lines . In the months after , I noticed several vegetarian and vegan restaurants , many of them Vietnamese , popping up all over the place . It has only grown from there . They say Berlin is the vegan capital of the world and , when you visit , you ’ ll notice that half the restaurants are Vietnamese . My favourite one happens to be in Vancouver so , with that said , I ’ d say Vancouver is up there , if not the top globally , for me .
What is one interesting fact about Osric that very few people know ? I think it ’ s that I ’ m quite physical and capable in martial arts and acrobatics . Not nearly as much as I was back in the day , but still , I find that I ’ m quite unassuming , and most people who find out that I was part of the Canadian National Team or that I worked as a stunt performer are often surprised . I also went to circus school as a kid , which built a strong foundation for me which I used with Wushu .
What does a typical day look like for you when you ’ re not working ? It ’ s generally 2-3 meetings whether in person or online . I typically respond to emails in the mornings and evenings , and then I read through the stack of scripts I still need to read , or dive into a book . I always carve out time for me to do some writing . And if I have some free time , I ’ ll watch a movie or visit my family and spend time with my nephews .
It ’ s a rainy Sunday night , and you ’ re staying in . What movie do you put on ? I generally don ’ t watch a movie more than once unless I ’ m doing homework or research , but I would find an action or horror movie that I haven ’ t seen yet . A lot of Korean films that I ’ ve seen lately have all been amazing .
