Team , how his acting career all started , where his heart is at , and what bedhead usually looks like for him .
How did you first get into acting , and what was your first role ? In the early days of personal computers , my dad got his hands on the first computer that could type Chinese characters . He started an English-Chinese translation business and one of his clients was an actress from Hong Kong named Alannah Ong . He translated a script for her , but the project never got off the ground and she never got paid . Knowing that my dad had three boys , she offered the three of us spots in her acting class in exchange . My mom immediately jumped at the chance , as she did with all free classes for her kids . Alannah connected my family to a new agency with an ambitious agent named Andrew Ooi who took us on . Andrew eventually became my theatrical agent , and has remained my manager all these years . It ’ s been 27 years that I ’ ve been with him now . I can ’ t be sure , but I believe the first role I ever did was a short film called The Miracle . I played a kid who stole an apple at a grocery store . Maybe ? I think I was 9 or 10 . It ’ s a little fuzzy now , but that should be my first role .
Free acting classes from a worldclass actress . Not many people can say they ’ ve had that privilege ! When you prepare for a role , where and how do you find inspiration ? It all starts on the page . If it ’ s a wellwritten script , you don ’ t have to do so much , because it ’ s all there for you to bring to life . If it ’ s not as fleshed out , then you have a little more space to explore . I tend to get the words in my head first , and then play out a scene in the most obvious way that would come to me . After that , I try to change it up and see if I stumble upon any moments that I might like . Sometimes when you ’ re reading a script , it ’ ll evoke a thought or a memory of something , and I let my mind wander in that direction and see where it lands . There isn ’ t really one way that I do it .
If Osric Chau wasn ’ t an actor , what profession would he have ? I would be a stunt performer if I wasn ’ t an actor .
