Not everyone wants an electric vehicle that has futuristic styling dialed up to eleven . If you ’ re one of those people , then Mazda ’ s allelectric MX-30 may just be the ticket .
On the outside , the MX-30 immediately feels familiar by adhering to the brand ’ s Kodo “ Soul of Motion ” design language . Clean character lines define the MX-30 ’ s less-is-more approach , yet distinctive features such as the rear-hinged second-row doors highlight the vehicle ’ s fundamental differences from the rest of Mazda ’ s family . The interior showcases a new layout with a floating centre console serving as the cabin centrepiece , while the cork surfaces are a subtle nod to Mazda ’ s humble beginnings as a cork manufacturer .

Powering the rear wheels is a single electric motor with 144 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque from a 35.5- kWh lithium-ion battery . The battery is capable of charging 0-80 % in under forty minutes when using a DC fast-charging station and will have no problems fully charging overnight from a household 240V outlet . Acceleration and range have not been officially rated as of this writing , but we expect the MX-30 to be brisk and peppy for any urban city and light highway driving . A range-extending MX- 30 plug-in hybrid is also on its way for those that need more range while on the go .
