The new EQS from Mercedes-EQ is the first giant step towards an all-electric future by Mercedes-Benz . The marque brings over a century of luxury expertise to the EQ sub-brand of vehicles . Serving as the line ’ s flagship electric sedan , the German automaker is finally bringing S-Class levels of luxury and performance to the electric full-size luxury sedan segment .
It ’ s clear that no engineering shortcuts were taken with the EQS . A new modular architecture designed for electric vehicles sets the foundation of the sedan , and designers took full advantage by giving the EQS a new interpretation of executive luxury and aerodynamic properties . This gives the EQS new proportions with its cab-forward design and pebble-like shape , along with a drag coefficient rating of 0.20 that sets it as the most aerodynamic production car on the market .
Old-world styling goes out the window with the EQS interior . The intelligent Hyperscreen at the centre of the dash houses multiple displays on a single piece of glass to create an immersive infotainment experience for front-row occupants . An AI-assisted MBUX interface learns the driver ’ s preferred features and makes them readily accessible through on-screen widgets , while a fingerprint scanner enables easy driver profile changes with relative ease . Beyond the tech showcase that dominates the cabin , the EQS still retains the exceptional S-Class comfort , amenities and space created by Mercedes-Benz for all passengers .
Range and performance metrics are outstanding on the EQS . In the EQS 580 4MATIC launch configuration for Canada , Mercedes- Benz estimates a 700-kilometre range with a powertrain delivering 516 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels . The 107.8-kWh battery can be charged at a rate of up to 200 kW via a DC fast-charger , and in the right conditions , the EQS gains 300 kilometres of range in only fifteen minutes . Although these numbers are based on the European WLTP figures , it ’ s safe to say that range anxiety and performance will not be an issue .
The Mercedes EQS pushes the boundaries on comfort , technology , and styling to provide a world-class electric vehicle experience for the most affluent customers . With the brand ’ s commitment to go all-electric by 2030 , the EQS is certainly a shining addition to the North American lineup .
