2019 Jaguar E-Pace
»
Catering to consumer demand, the Jaguar E-Pace is the British brand’ s latest entry into the white-hot small luxury crossover market. Joining vehicles such as the BMW X1, the MINI Countryman, and the Lexus NX, the E-Pace is essentially a baby F-Pace at just over 13 inches shorter than its bigger brother.
The E-Pace sits in between the Range Rover Evoque and the Land Rover Discovery Sport. Like the Evoque on which it’ s based, the E-Pace’ s chassis consists of struts up front and a multilink rear suspension. Power comes from Jaguar’ s Ingenium engine family courtesy of a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine producing 246 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque.
Step up to the R-Dynamic models which are tuned up to 296 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The only difference between the two engines is the amount of tuning in the turbo boost.
Both powerplants are mated to the corporate ZF nine-speed automatic transmission and are fed through a standard all-wheeldrive system. There is also an optional version dubbed Active Driveline that offers front- and all-wheel-drive functions.
The E-Pace’ s interior design is clean and simple, exactly what you expect from a modern mass-market Jaguar. Think of it as a higherup Jaguar XE and you’ re not too far off.
If you’ re looking for capacious rear seat room, the F-Pace is probably more suitable as the E-Pace’ s rear seats are best left to average-sized adults or kids. However, the E-Pace’ s 24 cu. ft. of cargo space easily surpasses what most competitors can offer.
The 2019 Jaguar E-Pace has an MSRP of $ 42,700.
