Areas for improvement in digital communications

The areas identified for improvement regarding how survey respondents’ offices use digital technologies to communicate with constituents are fairly evenly divided among the need for greater awareness about the potential of new technologies (23%), more training in use of software applications (23%), and more staffing (17%). Meanwhile, 17% of parliamentarians surveyed feel that their office is already using digital technology as much as is necessary.

Perceived effectiveness of new technologies

Regardless of the period of time new technologies have been used, the majority of parliamentarians surveyed feel that their use has made communication with constituents much more effective (66%) or somewhat more effective (25%). One parliamentarian surveyed feels that new technologies have made communication somewhat less effective, and another feels that new technologies have made no difference in the way she/he communicates with constituents. No respondents indicated that new technologies have made communication much less effective.
