Only The Keeper To Beat 7th March 2014 | Page 17

Cups he has just signed is first contract with FC Oberwallis a team in the third tier of Swiss Football FC Oberwallis is in the beautiful French alpine region very close to the Materhorn. Brig the city which is home to FC Oberwallis is surrounded by Alps on all sides. I certainly could think of many worse places to play football.

From the highs of playing in the NPL final against Sydney United 58 Lucas is now wearing all red and has the number 12 jersey for FC Oberwallis.

Lucas has just returned from a training camp in Spain where he proved his value to his new Manager Jurg Widmer.

FC Oberwallis is sitting third at the moment and some more good results will see them promoted to the Nationwide League. Let's hope this happens and Lucas gets to play all over Switzerland.

Lucas is the only Australian in the team filled with players from all over the world, places such as Brazil, Croatia and Macedonia. The main languages at training are German and Swiss. Lucas tells me he can manage understanding the training ground languages. He is currently learning German and I bet he wishes he had listened to Hedwig speaking her native language when he was younger.

He trains twice a day and his total focus is on football. Accommodation and food is provided and while not studying German he is immersed in football.

Lucas lives with other players and enjoys their company. Fortunately, he also has family only 2 and half hours away by train.

I know Lucas is in contact with lots of his team mates via social media but thought you might all like an insight into his new life for the forseeable future.

Well done to Lucas, his family and everyone who has had input into the terrific young man he has become. Updates will follow.
