20 league and play with Serg, so we have to work together to ensure the smooth running of the 3 squads.
Since you have been at the club there has been multiple changes at the top... Any reason why you haven't put your hand up to take up the role?
Yes I have seen a few coaches come and go, but the expectation at the club is high as it should be and with only 21 games in a season, if you start badly then the pressure starts to mount. After having a go as Senior coach with the Knights I am quite happy at the moment to play a lesser role within the club. But never say never.
How do you expect the team to perform this year... the Development Team?
I will expect the team to win the league, even if it is a development league you still play to win and we have a number of players turning 20 this year, so under the current set up if they do not make the v league squad next season we could see some of these talented players moving on, So it is important that we give them the best possible chance to do this, mixing these lads with some of the younger lads coming through, the club is in a very healthy position.
Who are a few players you would like to point out for people to watch.
I don't really like to point out players but some of the younger ones that come through last season include Luke Warrener and Liam Heffernan who have both had a superb summer cup tournament. Along with Ryan Woodford. But the main one to watch out for is 16 year old Jacob (Jake) Brennan, he played under 16s last season, impressed in preseason training given a chance throughout the summer cup and scored both goals in our 2-0 semi final win over Knights.
Even with the new accreditation and formation views of FFA, you are one of the few willing to coach as each match is played... Why?
I believe that because you get to know the opposition players, strengths and weaknesses of the teams it is easier to set your team up to exploit the weaknesses and hopefully win the game. As much as we all are required to play the 4 3 3 formation you can adapt this during the game to the extent that during the second half of the game on Monday we played more of a 4 5 1 formation to win the game.
In my opinion the reason you play football is to win the game so if that means changing formations to do this then so be it, so if you see my team losing with 15 to go you can ensure we will give it a go and could end up playing a 3 2 5 formation. When it comes off great and when it does not then you go home and think what you could have done different.
