The O ’ Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center ’ s Cancer Training & Career Development Office is proud to partner with Birmingham City Schools and Birmingham Promise to support young researchers like Kamari Marzette .
Marzette , a former Birmingham City Schools student now enrolled at UAB , was featured in a recent television commercial filmed in Wallace
Tumor Institute . The commercial was shown regionally during broadcasts such as the Super Bowl and the Grammy Awards .
While still a student in Birmingham City Schools , Marzette was a participant in Cancer Research Training and Education Coordination ( CRTEC ) summer internships , which allowed her to gain real-life research experience working in O ’ Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center labs , including the lab of Mary Kathryn Sewell-Loftin , Ph . D ., where segments of the commercial were shot . Marzette ’ s success in these endeavors has now carried though to her undergraduate academic career at UAB .
