The O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center Research
Retreat hit two impressive milestones in 2018: leaders
celebrated 20 years of the retreat and a record 450
physicians, scientists and trainees attended the day-long
event. The 2018 retreat focused on Developmental
Therapeutics and featured two exceptional keynote
speakers, Dr. Alex A. Adjei, M.D., Ph.D., from the Mayo
Clinic and Dr. Laura J. Esserman, M.D., MBA, from the
University of California at San Francisco.
Every year the O’Neal Cancer Center hosts its annual
Research Retreat and Competition, in which junior
investigators, trainees, postdoctoral fellows and
graduate students showcase their scientific work in areas
of cancer research. Scientists and trainees presented more than 140
posters, and Cancer Center leaders presented 12
awards in eight categories. Upender Manne, Ph.D.,
senior scientist at the O’Neal Cancer Center, won the
Albert F. LoBuglio Distinguished Faculty Award, given
annually to an investigator who has made outstanding
research contributions.
