It was a closely contested match from the start with each team having beaten the other during the regular season. However, on a neutral pitch at the Heys Sports Complex in Oswaldtwistle, Wolves turned their early pressure into a goal. Luke Smalley won the free-kick, being brought down just outside the penalty box, after a skilful mazy run. Up stepped team captain, Matthew Hough, who scored a glorious free-kick, his shot crashing into the far corner of the net
Wolves continued to retain possession, only for Lammack to equalise just before half time after a mix up in the Wolves penalty box.
Wolves started the second half as they had finished the first, in an up-tempo mood eager to take the game by the scruff of the neck. This early motivation enabled Wolves to take the lead for the second time, after some fantastic inter-play in midfield by Joe Czapowski and George Orrell, who orchestrated a great opportunity for Rory Bullock, who scored with a fine one touch finish.
However, Lammack then seemed to raise their game and began to put pressure on the Wolves defence, which eventually resulted in a Lammack equaliser.
Midway through the second half, Wolves took the lead for a third time when Bullock, surrounded by Lammack defenders, managed to squeeze a shot from a tight angle into the Lammack net. Lammack tried to get themselves back into the match, but with outstanding defending throughout from Teddy Sutcliffe, Harry Mayor, Daniel Sherry and Braydon Hamer, Lammack were unable to find that elusive equaliser.
At the final whistle, there were scenes of celebration from the whole team in winning the match and experiencing their first taste of cup glory.
