I am currently working with a senior team PTT Rayong Fc who play in a the Thai Premier League. The following session is based around counter attacking and can be used with junior teams as well as senior teams obviously adjustment to the areas and restrictions need to be applied. I have studied the methods of Jose Mourinho's sides and what has run through all of the teams he's worked with is there ability to defend very deep and counter attack from this defending position attacking opposition from one end of the field to the other with 5-10 seconds. Your team needs to recognise the time to counter attack and once the individual has broken the line it is important to break as a group. It is also important to be able to run with the ball with pace, I find too many players look for the next pass rather than run at opponents once you have intercepted and say your midfield marker is caught the wrong side rather than make it easy for this player trying to get goal side by passing running with the ball at opponents defenders will now cause problems for defenders, do they get drawn to the ball which now you have players over or do I stay with my player and keep dropping. I find that players need to be fit and be able to achieve this.
