Both I, and a good friend of mine Jim Roberts, are coaches of the Undy Under 8s – The Undy Bears. Both our sons play for our team and are also part of the Cardiff City Academy setup along with two other players in the team. We currently have a squad of 17 players and we play in the East Gwent league in a 5 v 5 format with goal keepers.
We train on Tuesday evening and play a non-competitive match every Sunday. We are also very active in finding tournaments to attend around the country to gain greater experience of the game. We have recently had trips to Aston Villa, Silverdale in Walsall, and Highworth Town in Swindon to name a few.
Undy Juniors have teams ranging from Under 6 to Under 18 aswell as the Ladies, Veterans, and of course our hugely successful first team who play in the Welsh League.
Jim and myself have been coaching since our sons started at Under 6 level and I imagine we will be at the club and involved in football for many years to come.
I also sponsor the Undy Bears through my own business, K L Tiling. I am a wall and floor tiler
specialising in the installation of Natural Stone. I am extremely proud to not just have the opportunity to coach at the club,
but to also sponsor the team I am coaching.
Many of the players at Undy have either had trials with or are currently involved with professional clubs ranging from Newport County and Bristol City, to Cardiff City. There are great opportunities here at Undy for any players who show potential. There is also of course plenty of opportunity for young boys and girls in the local area to get involved with football at grass roots level.
There is a great community spirit at the club and everybody is fully encouraged to get involved. The club are always looking for new players and people who can help out.
I am also personally involved as a Rep for South Wales for a charity called KitAid. KitAid are massively involved with sending new and used football kits and equipment to under privileged kids around the world.
