During the summer three teams were formed from the FJSC Girls’ Section at Under 10, Under 11 and Under 12. Having not played competitive football before it was decided that during the 2013-14 season to play friendly matches in the Merseyside area and to enter local Football Festivals as well.
FJSC has over sixty girls from 7-12 years of age playing football each Saturday morning in the club’s Inter Club Girls’ Section. This means every girl is placed in a team within the club and plays every week. No one is left out regardless of ability.
At the moment FJSC has two Girls divisions of four teams. The Under 10 Division teams are the Magpies, Falcons, Owls and Swifts and in the Under 12 Division we have the Tigers, Wolves, Sharks and Dolphins.
Formby Junior Sports Club was founded in 1959. For 54 years it has had an Inter Club Section for every member to play in each week. It also has teams that representative the club in local leagues therefore catering for everyone. At present there are 30 Inter Club teams all with team names. 22 are boys teams from 4-15 years of age and 8 as earlier mentioned are girls teams. There are no team managers and half time team talks are by the children themselves. The children choose their own positions and there is no pressure on the young players. They improve by playing each week and it works. Of course we give the children opportunities for coaching as well but this is open to everyone with the aim to improve ball skills.
FJSC has 17 boys Representative teams from Under 7 to Under 18 and 3 girls Representative teams one of which One-Two Magazine has bought shirts, shorts and socks for. This season the club’s membership is 400 plus. FJSC is also an FA Charter Standard Development Club.
It was founded by Jim Rourke when he took his nine year old son Frank to the local park in January 1959 for a game of football. Jim formed teams from the boys playing and from this a very unique club started. 54 years later Frank with the help of a number of enthusiastic volunteers organises Football for All each week.
Some of the dads who have brought their sons along to the club over the years have included Kenny Dalglish and Howard Kendall.
