We have devised a brand new football training aid that has been developed for the last 6 years, it will teach you how to curl a ball like the best players in the world...
We have a study that was carried out using top players drawn from the professional footballing squads at AC Milan (Italy) Olympique de marseille (France) Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke (both from Germany) the players ranged from 19-34 years old.
The study was to find out if a curving ball can induce errors in the judgements of a final arrival position in top footballers.
What they discovered was that once a ball was curled - the results from this study provided strong evidence that the perceptual effects described found their origin in inherent limitations of the human visual system in anticipating the arrival point of a ball... And the depth of experience of the players did not seem to be able to compensate for those shortcomings in visual perception, wether they were outfield players or goalkeepers.
Ok, so now we know why it's better to curl a ball, it gives you a better chance of scoring. Wether it be a free kick, a corner, in play or wherever! and that's why footballers do it.
And they spend hours of their lives trying to perfect it...
And that got me thinking...
When a ball is in flight, spinning at around 600rpm (which is what a pro footballer achieves) Magnus force will change its trajectory causing it to swerve either left or right, up or down (depending on the spin of the ball) which means, in order to get the ball to swerve in the first place, it has to spin!
My idea is very simple...
Why can't we just take the spinning ball out of the air, put it on the ground and then mould ourselves around that spinning ball? After all, that's exactly what we want it to be doing once we've kicked it!
We've devised a training aid that will teach a person to curl a ball as good, if not better than the best footballers in the world and this is how it works...
You place the device on the ground and put the football in the cup, set it to spin at 600 rpm (highest level) in the direction you want to curl the ball... Now when you kick the ball the force of the spin on your foot when it connects will push it out of the way, giving you a better idea of which position you need to be in to comfortably get your foot around the ball with ease.. So instantly - you have realised you need to re- position yourself...
The next step is to keep up with the speed of the spin, once you have mastered that you can apply power and direction. Once you have achieved all three (position speed and control) the next step is to drop the speed down from 600 rpm to 500 rpm...
So now it's spinning slower you now do exactly the same but this time you need to put a bit more spin on yourself, bring it back up to your target speed of around 600 rpm. Once you can achieve it at 500 rpm, move it down to 400 rpm, again putting more effort in to bring it up to 600 rpm ... Repeat this method until you are down to the lowest setting, once you can curl the ball at around 600 rpm, when it's only spinning at 100 rpm, you can then drop the ball anywhere on the pitch and swing a perfect curl in every time!
By simply moulding yourself around the spinning ball - you have learned to re-position yourself instantly! And feel things that a static ball couldn't give you, and understand where you need to apply the speed in your kick... It totally re-programmes the way you even think about curling a ball and more importantly it gives you the technique!
And that is what footballers train so hard to achieve.
This is totally brand new and will be available to buy late next year, the prototype has just been made so videos and a website will be coming very soon.
