The organisation also aims to help young people develop their skills, capabilities and responsibilities in society through education and leisure time activities to enable them to become mature and responsible individuals.

"We all know the socialism Grandy stood for. Everyone working together for a share of the rewards. His legacy is huge and speaks for itself. I wanted to use the Shankly name to continue his legacy and to uphold his socialist values. Starting a charity in his name and helping people is a great way to do this."

The Shankly Leagues

The Shankly Family Foundation are looking to set up a fully managed 7 a side League at Cardinal Heenan School in West Derby.

We are looking for interested teams to sign up by emailing [email protected]

We are currently in the recruitment stage and are asking interested teams to get in touch and advise us which days of the week (it will be a midweek league) they would be interested in playing on. There will be just a £20 registration fee per team for the season, and cost will be £35 per team per game throughout the season.

We recommend that teams come with a squad of at least 7, but a maximum of 9, as rules will state that substitutes are roll on roll off. With a maximum squad of 9, this works out at less than £4 per man per game. All money taken will go directly to The Shankly Family Foundation to help achieve its outputs of supporting grassroots football and young people.

The league will be fully managed and run by the foundation and referred by qualified individuals. Trophy's and medals will be presented at the end of each season to successful teams.

If you are a 7 a side team and are interested in signing up, to play in a well managed and run league; where your money will be contributing 100% to supporting grass roots football and young people, then please let us know and register with us now.

Supporting Liverpool Schoolboys

One of the first organisations The Shankly Family Foundation wanted to support under the Grassroots guise was Liverpool Schoolboys. Many renowned footballers who have gone on to become world class talents have proudly represented the City of Liverpool via the Schoolboy team. Steven Gerrad, Robbie Fowler, Wayne Rooney and Steve McManaman are just some of the names that have come off the production line.

The history and prestige of turning out for Liverpool Schoolboys is undeniable and The Shankly Family Foundation wanted to uphold this by supporting in any way we can. As a result, the Under 11's are now training on the fantastic facilities at Cardinal Heenan School; where they have access to a host of pitches, changing facilities, classrooms and meeting rooms for parents; all courtesy of The Shankly Family Foundation. Additionally, the under 10 teams are also using the facilities for their development needs. The Foundation will continue to support the Schoolboys going forward in all of their endeavours wherever possible.
