If you decide you want to cancel, you must notify the company—silence on your part means you’re willing to wait for the new date. If you decide to cancel, the company must refund your money within 7 business days of cancellation. If you purchased by credit card, the company must adjust your statement by the next billing period. Seeking Help The Public Protection Division is part of the Attorney General’s Office in Montpelier. Its primary responsibility is to enforce Vermont’s Consumer Fraud Act, which prohibits “unfair methods of competition” and “unfair or deceptive acts or practices.” The Consumer Assistance Program (“CAP”), located in Burlington, mediates numerous consumer complaints each month.
